Myth has it that the Titans were the sons and daughters of Gaia and Uranus. The Ancient Greeks believed Mt. Othrys was the Titans’ base in the war they waged against Zeus and the other Olympian gods. In fact, the Titanomachy mentions that huge boulders were flung from there towards Mt. Olympus.
Mythology has it that Achilles’ kingdom of the Myrmidons, dating from the time of the Homeric epics, was also located at Mt. Othrys. Achilles was son of Peleus and Thetis. Homer’s Iliad recounts that the Myrmidon warriors led by Achilles played a leading role in the Trojan War.
